Julien Turcat est un artiste français basé en Normandie.

Après une formation initiale en arts appliqués, il développe une pratique picturale personnelle centrée sur l’émergence des formes au sein de systèmes visuels structurés. Son travail explore la manière dont certaines configurations peuvent apparaître à l’intérieur de matrices de lignes, de modules et de structures géométriques.

Parallèlement à sa recherche artistique, il s’est formé au métier de peintre en décor du patrimoine, une expérience qui nourrit son attention aux surfaces, aux structures et à la construction picturale.

Démarche artistique

Je construis des structures visuelles pour découvrir la forme qui doit apparaître en elles.

Chaque œuvre commence par la mise en place d’une matrice composée de modules géométriques simples : lignes, angles et fragments répétés organisés selon une logique rigoureuse. Cette première étape crée une architecture visuelle neutre, un espace structuré sans forme centrale.

Par un travail de connexion et de transformation, la trame initiale devient progressivement plus dense et plus ambiguë. Le système perd peu à peu sa lisibilité et se transforme en un champ de tensions et de potentialités.

À l’intérieur de cette structure transformée, certaines configurations commencent alors à émerger. Ces formes ne sont pas décidées à l’avance : elles sont découvertes au cours du travail, par l’observation et l’ajustement.

Mon travail explore ce moment d’émergence : l’instant où une forme singulière apparaît au sein d’un système abstrait et semble naturellement trouver sa place dans la structure qui l’a fait naître.

Julien Turcat is a French artist based in Normandy, France.

After an initial training in applied arts, he developed a personal painting practice exploring the emergence of forms within structured visual systems. His work investigates how singular configurations can appear inside matrices of lines, modules and geometric structures.

Alongside his artistic research, he trained as a decorative painter specialized in heritage techniques, a background that informs his sensitivity to surface, structure and pictorial construction.

His recent work focuses on the relationship between visual systems, emergence and the appearance of form.

Artist statement

I build visual structures in order to discover the form that must appear within them.

Each work begins with the construction of a matrix composed of simple geometric modules: lines, angles and repeated fragments arranged according to a rigorous system. This first stage creates a neutral visual architecture, a structured field without a central form.

Through a process of connection and transformation, the initial grid becomes denser and more ambiguous. The system gradually loses its readability and turns into a space of tension and potential.

Within this transformed structure, certain configurations begin to emerge. These forms are not predetermined. They are discovered through observation and adjustment during the process.

My work explores this moment of emergence: the instant when a singular form appears within an abstract system and seems to naturally find its place inside the structure that generated it.
